Defence Mental Health Symposium 2012
RAF LAKENHEATH 08th – 10th OCTOBER 2012
After more than 30 years of holding a Defence Mental Health Conference, financial constraints and equality of access to military and MOD civilians means this years gathering has been re organised as a three day Symposium that maximises mass training and keeps overnight accommodation to a minimum.
This year we have been offered an excellent opportunity to hold the Defence Mental Health Services Symposium in collaboration with the United States Air Force at Lakenheath. The venue offers excellent Lecture, Seminar and Accommodation facilities.
Several key note speakers have confirmed and include Professor Wessely (ACDMH), Lt Cdr Kennedy (USN), Professor Papadopoulos (Centre for Psychoanalytic Studies), Dr Peterson (US STRONGSTAR), Maj N Jones (ACDMH) and Dr Busuttil (Combat Stress). Workshops have been arranged delivering training through in-house UK Military trainers on topics such as Trauma Focussed CBT, Alcohol Assessment and Motivational interviewing and from US trainers from the Center for Deployment Psychology on Sleep Hygiene, Prolonged exposure therapy, and Cognitive Processing Therapy.
As is customary, an all ranks Formal Dinner will be held following the days activities on 08 Oct 12 and we will be entertained by an ensemble of the Royal Air Force College Band.Attendance is not compulsory but represents good value entertainment.
International Military Mental Health Running Club
As usual there will be an opportunity to participate in this annual event to work up an appetite before the Formal Dinner.
Following the Workshops and Professional Meetings on 09 Oct 12 there will be a optional social event and opportunity for informal discussion.
